I'm not much of a cook :( But, I do love experimenting in the kitchen to try and create fun food. And in this case, this candy doubles as an edible serving tray! . . .
Since Valentines Day is on a Friday this year, we are trying to pull together a little party. I think these are going to be so cute for displaying mini cupcakes, candies or these little Dove Chocolate "appetizers" . . .
I first got the idea for the candy trays from Tutto Bello (You've probably seen the adorable Christmas peppermint serving platter floating around Pinterest.) Well, the Christmas before last I made the trays and they were so adorable that I wanted to see what I could whip up for Valentines using the same technique. Here's what to do . . .
1. Get some candy canes and Jolly Ranchers . . .
2. Put wax paper on a cookie sheet and use the candy canes to make a heart. Then, fill the inside with pink and red Jolly Ranchers . . .
I had some broken candy canes, so I did one with broken pieces inside the heart shape . . .
3. Heat your oven to 350 and "bake" the hearts for 10 minutes (make sure you have wax paper between your hearts and cookie sheet) . . .
4. Let the hearts cool for at least 30 min (although, I like to wait as long as possible to ensure they are completely cooled. Then, CAREFULLY peel the wax paper off of the tray. The trays are very delicate, so go slow.
And that's it! You've got super-cute mini serving trays.
p.s. Since we (probably) won't eat the candy hearts, I already have these displayed and are using for decoration in my office. So, no need to wait until closer to Valentines - you can use them as decoration now and then show them off for your party next month.
